ACADEMIC RESEARCH PAPER PUBLICATION
The Brief
Design a publication for a research paper that maintains the importance and serious nature of the text but visually interesting. Use the imagery and design to enhance the ideas of the text to make it more impactful.
The Approach
Inspired by Scandinavian design, I blended a modern, minimal design language with the punk aesthetic of the 70s and 80s to create an edgy, grunge styled publication but reinforcing the seriousness and importance of the text. The text is a heavy and serious subject matter so it was crucial to not minimise the importance by leaning too far into the edgy nature of punk aesthetics, so I balanced it with a clean design that let the text have its space on the page with imagery only being supplementary. The punk aesthetic was crucial to maintain as it is where the author got its name from — a song by 80s punk band Dead Kennedys with the same name.
